Guide lines for writing match reports for the website and press
The aim of sending reports to the press is to promote rugby and the club.
- Do not mention the referee or comment on any desisions made.
- Do criticise the other side.
- Don't mention the name of anyone who gets injured or sent off
- Any material that does mention the referee or is considered offensive will not be published
For the press
- Keep the article short 200 to 300 words, it is more likely to get in the paper if it is kept short.
- Mention the full name first and then you can use a short version ie "Andrew Parkin scored the first try" and later then "In the final minutes Parkin completed his first hat trick for the club".
- Mention as many names as possible.
- Keep it accurate. Get to the point and don't woffle
- Your contact details will be sent with the report You will probably not get a mention in the paper.
- It is good manners not to talk about yourself or your relative to much
