U9s at Darlington Festival

On Sunday gone, our Under 9's team joined the convoy to Darlington Rugby Club to take part in the Festival. So then, erm match report. . .yes. . er. What can i say about this weeks performances.

Right! This week I watched our under 9's team put on the greatest show of rugby of their lives. Ive heard people say that kids just do their thing and don't let things like "end of season" or "last game for a while" effect the way they play. . ,well all thats rubbish!. From the start of the season, our team has been captained by Lewis Foulger and this Sunday Lewis played his last game for the team before moving to Hamo's team for next year. Lewis began the day searching for his first try having played out of his skin for the full season without notching. This point was made clear to the rest of the team with the stricktest instruction to get the ball to him at all opportunities. He duly took the ball and drove through the entire defence to carry the ball over the line, much to the obvious joy of himself and the rest of the team. . . and a certain manager who may have been seen running on the pitch to celebrate in an (football) exuberant style!. The team as a whole played some fantastic rugby with some players also put in the performance of their season. Leon Turnbull didnt start the first game, having played the most minutes of all of the team throughout the season, but arrived on the pitch with a massive impact smashing in tackle after tackle. During the game I asked his dad what he'd had for breakfast as he was obviously very wound up, to which his dad replied that it was my fault because I hadnt picked him for the start. After the game I told Leon he wouldn't be getting in the starting line up ever again if that was how he'd perform. He wasn't the only one getting the big tackles in, with Max Mcgregor doing his utmost to stop anything not in a Bishop shirt. . ,then we get to our newly nicknamed "Assassin", Jackson Smith who was taking opponents down for fun as they tried to get past him.

On the day our team won two games and lost two games, the latter of which was against at he eventual winners, the coach of which said afterwards, that it had been their most difficult game of the day!

At the beginning of the season, i was often to be found with my head in my hands, wondering what id taken on in rugby team management and looking for other coaches to rescue me.However, at the end of the season I find the team showing the attributes that Quinny, Leigh and myself have been looking for from the start of the season. I cant express how proud I am to be part of the under 9's team and and their progress throughout the year. Thanks for a fantastic season boys!!
