At the AGM in May the election of members for the main club committee takes place.
The holders of 2 important positions have decided not to continue.
These 2 positions are CLUB SECRETARY and SOCIAL SECRETARY. Paul Musgrave M:07919 153056
Keith Wilkinson P:01388 602922At the start of the season we had 12 under 8's and 7 under 7's, what a shock we had when along came more and more players, good coaching? family orientated? or the boys bringing along their friends? we will never know, but by the end of the season we had 34 children regularly playing rugby and bringing their parents along too, we managed not to loose any players throughout the season and they all appeared to be enjoying training and the atmosphere.
With the increase in numbers it was quickly decided to truly split the teams into 7's and 8's with Peter Sayer heading up the 7's and Kevin Watson the 8's. Peter was overwhelmed with 19 players most of whom had not been through the BLT's herding cats was mentioned a lot, after some persuasion 3 dads came on board and agreed to help coach, we welcomed Paul Walton, Scott Downie and Lee Iveson to our fold. Very quickly we played in the Sunderland Tag festival the under 7's managed to get through to the fianl but after some dodgy refereeing sadly lost, but all credit to Peter, Paul, Scott and Lee in a very short space of the time, their team had done them proud and had the confidence to play in competitions.
The Under 8's under the watchful eye of Kevin, Paul Brookes and Julian Dowson also welcomed Michael Dawson and Steve Berry to be taking a more active role within the team, coaching, first aiding and match reports. A difficult season for the under 8's most of them more than ready to tackle and becoming slightly bored with Tag, all credit to the coaching team for keeping the interest of the players and dangling the carrot of tackling after presentation night!!
The amount of players warrented more first aid trained parents, we ended up with 5 willing parents coming to the rescue. Thanks to June, Joanne, Julie, Rachel and Steve.
During the year we have had a couple of successful TAG social events, Mr Twister entertained the TAG families and we had a few fireworks at the end, a night enjoyed by all.
We held a summer picnic at the club too, all parents becoming involved the sharing of lovely food (Tabitha!!) and the playing of games other than rugby. The season ended with the under 7's winning th fairplay award at Mowden Park, a well deserved prize for all of the commitment shown by both the coaches and the players.
The presentation afternoon was a huge success, only 2 players missing as they were on holiday, the awards went to
Under 7's Coaches Player Max Dawson
Most improved player Ben Thirkell
Under 8's Coaches Player Ben S
Most improved player Matthew Cowling.
Our hopes for next season, to make the transition to tackling without losing any players, building the players confidence during the summer. Hopefully get a few new players too! Concentrate on teambuilding, we hope to involve even more parents within the team and encourage parents to become part of the whole club not just the junior section.
We are also planning several social events to help with teambuilding and encourage parent participation. Good luck to Helen Walton with managing the Tags next year, wishing you all a successful and enjoyable season.
Watch this space the best is yet to come!!!!!!!!!
Susan Shaw-HughesThe annual presentation awards this week brought to a close the end of a fantastic season for Bishop Auckland R F U Club minis. The awards were held at their club house and exceeded all expectation in the number attending this year (standing room only). Each age group squad has grown in numbers throughout and picked up extra players as word has spread how much progress each team has made.
In particular the under 10's started the season with 6 regular players training and playing each week then ended the season with 12 players. The teams acheivements this season can only be described as outstanding due to the hard work put in by each player, the teams coach Peter Gallone and manager Vicky Redfearn.
The team has played in 3 big competitions this season reaching the semi final in the Darlington Festival, the final in the Durham City Festival and the Plate Final which they won in the County Cup. Each week twice a week these young players turn up, play and train to the best of their ability, at times all over the county hail, rain, shine, snow, wind anything. Due to this commitment the club presented each team member with a commemorative medal and brought in an extra special guest to do the honours Leiscester Tigers and England Under 18's player Alec Clarey who started his career at Bishop.
Alec also presented additional awards to players that had stood out this season both to the coaches and the team themselves they went to :
Jack Wiffen the Under 10's Most Improved Player of The Season
James Gallone the Under 10's Coaches Player of the Season
Luke Redfearn the Under 10's Players Player of the Season
Each year as the players gain more experience and skill it makes it even more difficuilt to identify players for the these additional awards as there are always a number of players that deserve these special awards and it always takes weeks of discussions to identify these players. Well done to them but also a huge well done to the rest of the team for their achievements, they can only get better and stronger as they progress to the under 11's next season.
WELL DONE: JACK, JAMES, LUKE, WILL, LIAM, DANIEL, NATHAN, CALLUM, JORDAN, KEIRA, AIDAN and LUCAS.
Also a big thank you to the parents for transporting and supporting the team and especially the teams sponsor Carol and Kevin Watson of TEST ELECTRICS. Another good season for the Bishop Blues !!
Vicky Redfearn
A difficult season which started well. Some great results and well deserved wins against teams that had been much stronger than the lads in the previous season. This included wins against Yarm, Guisborough and Consett.
The season has been a constant battle with numbers, and several games were only able to be played by either reducing the players on the field for both sides or alternatively through the sporting nature of the opposition in loaning players.
Regardless of all of these problems the lads have continued to work hard during training, and play with great heart in every match, including some tournaments where we were drawn with some very good opposition. They are all a credit to the club and their parents.
Towards the end of the season there has been an influx of new players with lots of promise. These include; Greg, Charley, Daniel and Oliver all picking up the game amazingly quickly. This should help the team to build on the last season and move on to better things.
With hard work over the summer in terms of fitness and improved aggression on the field of play this team can do great things. The more players we can bring in to add support to the great core of players we currently have can only help. So check with your mates when you start Comprehensive and bring them along.
Best wishes to Jackson who has been out of action for some of the season and we are all looking forward to his return.
Players player - Ethan Hall
Ever present, and a power house on the field, even played through his last game of the season with a broken shoulder!
Coaches player - Nathan Alderson
Made a mid-season come-back to rugby and has been a revelation. His latest diet of raw meat seems to be paying dividends in terms of his tackling game, he will take on anybody. All he needs now are plenty of thermals for the winter months!
Most improved player - Ewan Nattrass
Sometimes the quiet man of the team, but on the field he is ever present. Always supports the runners, and turns up at just the right time to help his teammates. He reads the game well and provides the necessary support at all positions. He has made a great improvement this season, keep it up Ewan!
Next years objectives,
To maintain the training with the lads over the summer and get back to Wed. Night training.
